Alonissos heeft ca. 3.500 bewoners (2024) en is al vanaf de prehistorie bewoond geweest. De meeste mensen wonnen in de hoofdstad van Alonissos-stad (Pattiri) en plaatsjes in de buurt, Rsoum en Votsi. Ook de kustplaatsen Steni-vala en Kalamakia zijn wat dichter bevolkt dan de rest van het eiland. Het noordelijke deel van Alonissos is vrijwel onbewoond. De bevolkingsdichtheid van Alonissos bedraagt ca. 55 bewoners per km2.
